If you get regular visitors to your website, you have one commodity that can actually help you make money all the time. If you have a list of subscribers to your free electronic newsletter, you have a valuable asset that can turn a profit time and time again.
Any of the above will qualify you to sell advertising because you have access to readers. Yet you may not see yourself as owning an advertising business.
Let us take your local newspaper as an example of how advertising works. Now, a newspaper owner hires writers, editors, reports, and printing experts to produce his newspapers every day. Next he hires the best distribution experts to ensure that the paper gets distributed to the vendors who sell them every day to consumers.
Now, if you think about it, you will recognize very quickly that in order to make money from newspapers, the owners must have other sources of income than the paltry sum they collect from the actual newspaper sales. That’s hardly enough money to cover all of his expenses. To make money he has to sell advertising space in his newspaper!
You see this all the time. You open up a newspaper and there they are; pages and pages of advertisements, both large and small. That is where the newspaper owner makes money. Now consider for a minute how you can duplicate his business model in a virtual way.
The only reason why the newspaper guy is able to sell advertising is because he has a ready readership. He has people who read his newspaper consistently. Using that valuable resource, he is then able to convince his advertisers to pay him top dollar for advertising in his daily newspaper.
When you create a website that consistently draws in new and repeat visitors, you are creating a valuable resource called “advertising space”. Pretty soon, you can begin to sell space on your website, in the form of text links or banner advertisements, and make money in the process. It then becomes a “no-brainer”, in terms of actually creating wealth from your online virtual real estate.
The same thing happens when you have a list of people who consistently read your electronic newsletters. If you have between 1000 and 5000 persons on your list, you can begin to sell advertisements to other advertisers who like to sell products or services to y-o-u-r readers.
So there you have it. You can make money on the Internet quite easily by building your websites, blogs, and newsletter list. As soon as you have a fair sized list, go ahead and start monetizing your asset.
